Portraits, family and estate papers of the
Eyres of Eyreville, Kiltormer, Co. Galway

Donal recently acquired the family and estate papers relating to the Eyre family of Eyreville, county Galway, junior branch of the Eyrecourt family. The documents date from the late seventeenth and eighteenth centuries and this evening’s talk relates to some new aspects of that family’s history derived from the same papers.

A native of Clonfert in east Galway, Donal Burke graduated with a Bachelors degree in Architecture from Bolton Street College of Technology, Dublin and worked thereafter for twenty years as an architectural consultant in Wicklow, Dublin and Galway. In 2014 he was elected to Galway County Council. He has a life-long interest in history particularly relating to County Galway and in 2013 he established a website entitled burkeseastgalwaydedicated to producing original research on families associated with east Galway. His other interests include heraldry, political affairs, Argentinian tango and fencing among others.
